“We did it!” Irina Rodnina, the only pair skater to win 10 successive World Championships and three successive Olympic gold medals.

For the first time in history the Olympic flame conquered the space! It travelled for such a long distance and was lucky to arrive in Russia! It was carried by 14 000 torchbearers from all over Russia.

Olympic Fire traveled for more than 65,000 kilometers in 123 days, visited the capitals of all the subjects of the Russian Federation. The sacred fire has visited the North Pole, lake Baikal, top of Mount Elbrus and even has been in the outerspace. In the region of the Olympic Games (Krasnodar region) Olympic Fire was traveling on a combine-harvester, observation wheel and even on a dolphin’s back.

The Olympic flame was lighted by outstanding Russian Olympic champions Irina Rodnina and Vyacheslav Tretiak with the support of more than 40,000 people at the modern Olympic stadium Fischt in the Olympic Park.
